Upon reading the letters, shift supervisor Doug Kirchoff and his crew discovered they were written by the family of James Prosser, a soldier from Wales killed in Afghanistan in September 2009.

A Queensland magistrate has ruled that it is acceptable for people to tell police officers to “f*ck off”.

…NEW YORK, Aug. 5 (UPI) — Periodontal disease may signal increased risk of cognitive dysfunction associated with Alzheimer’s disease, New York University researchers found.
Study leader Dr. Angela Kamer and colleagues conducted a meta-analysis involving 20 years of data that supports a possible causal link between periodontal disease, or gum inflammation, and Alzheimer’s disease, which involves brain inflammation.
“The research suggests that cognitively normal subjects with periodontal inflammation are at an increased risk of lower cognitive function compared to cognitively normal subjects with little or no periodontal inflammation,” Kamer said in a statement.
Kamer’s team then compared cognitive function at ages 50 and 70, using the Digit Symbol Test, a part of the standard measurement of adult IQ.

Creator of Cheez Doodles Dies at 90

Morrie R. Yohai, the creator of the crunchy, finger-staining orangeCheez Doodles snack, has died at his home on Long Island. He was 90.

…Yohai died of cancer on July 27 at his Long Island home in Kings Point, his son, Robbie, said Tuesday.

His father was always amused that people thought the cheddar cheese snack he produced at his Bronx factory was the highlight of his life, Robbie Yohai said. His father’s wide-ranging interests extended to Jewish mysticism and poetry, and the snack was only one of many things his father did, Yohai said.

But it’s Cheez Doodles that he will be remembered for.

Yohai developed the small tubular snack at his Old London Foods factory in the 1950s. The company already was selling Dipsy Doodles rippled corn chips, which were made with a machine that spit them out under pressure through a nozzle shaped like the letter W.

“He applied a similar concept for the Cheez Doodles,” adapting the machine to extrude liquefied cornmeal into a “more roundish, pinhole shape,” said Robbie Yohai.
