Stephen Colbert had conservative talk radio host Laura Ingraham on his show last night and called her out for making the most “hideous, hackneyed racial stereotypes” in her new book about President Obama.

…Stephen Colbert had conservative talk radio host Laura Ingraham on his show last night to promote her new book, The Obama Diaries, which is made up of fake diary entries by the President.

Colbert read from one entry: “It’s the era of ‘Barack The Beautiful,’ long may I reign,” and then asked, “What are the odds that Barack Obama’s private musings would completely and perfectly match up with the narrative that the right is trying to push about him?”
When Ingraham noted that she’s never believed Obama is dumb, Colbert responded: “I’ve read a fair amount of this book, and I know he’s not supposed to be a dumb guy, he’s a great orator, but this writing is terrible.”

After reading a segment that describes Michelle Obama eating baby-back ribs for every meal, Colbert added: “Obama’s making the most hideous, hackneyed racial stereotypes in here.”

Not until you learn how to drive. The president said the Republican Party lack one “single, solitary new idea” and are “betting on amnesia” to help them in November. He likened the GOP to a driver who has gone into a ditch, and after not helping to push the car out, demands the keys back.

Come on people we need to stop seeing Obama detractors as being racist. Just because you can find a sign that shows that there are ignorant people in the tea parties does not mean that “everyone” is a racist. When Bush was in power and they had really nasty signs up about him did we call the race card? No! We need to stop seeing in color. The fact of the matter is that even African Americans have Obama detractors in their ranks.

…NEW ORLEANS The only thing keeping millions more gallons of oil out of the Gulf of Mexico right now is a rush job: an experimental cap that has held for more than two weeks but was never meant to be permanent. As soon as this week, crews will be pumping in some insurance.
Engineers are preparing to launch a so-called static kill as early as Monday evening, shoving mud and perhaps cement into the blown-out well to make it easier to plug the gusher up forever and end the Summer of the Spill.
The effort carries no certainty, and BP PLC engineers still plan to follow it up days later by sending a stream of mud and cement into the bottom of the mile-deep underground reservoir through a relief well they’ve been digging for months.
But the oil giant’s engineers and petroleum experts say it’s the clearest path yet to choke the blown-out well and make it even easier for the crews drilling the relief well to ensure oil can never again erupt from the deep-sea well, which has spewed as much as 184 million gallons…

It all depends on whether one equates ‘illegal immigrant’ with evil-doers or with laborers. Some people look at an impoverished immigrant laborer and immediately think “illegal,” with all the stigma that word carries.

It seems to me that Americans are of two minds about the immigration question. They like the immigrants they know personally and are willing to extend this generosity of spirit to many of those who’ve entered the country illegally. At the same time, they believe the United States is a country of laws and want a system where those laws are respected.

But I’m certain it’s only a small minority of Americans that truly believes, as one reader put it to me, that illegal immigrants are an “invading criminal army” bent on destroying America. Unfortunately, that minority put its stamp on SB 1070 even though stats show crime is actually down in Arizona in recent years and numerous studies show that immigrants are less likely to commit crimes than the native-born.

“There’s a lot of fear out there, and when there’s fear it leads to prejudice and anger,” said Shahe Keshishian, a 39-year-old home healthcare worker, and another member of the bus caravan.
