There Are 129,864,880 Books in the Entire World
Aug 6th
According to Google’s advanced algorithms, there are nearly 130 million books.
…s thesis languishing in a university library). Google admits their definition is imperfect, but it’s workable and similar to what ISBNs are supposed to represent. ISBN, or International Standard Book Numbers, are designed to be unique identifiers for books. Because they’ve only been around for 30-40 years and are used in mostly Western countries, they can’t be used by themselves. That’s why Google took data from the Library of Congress, WorldCat and others to find as many books as possible one billion raw records by the company’s count. Here’s where Google’s engineering talent comes into play. The company used countless algorithms to determine and discard duplicates in an effort that required more than 150 pieces of metadata related to the world’s books to evaluate whether each book record was unique or a duplicate of another. Analyzing this data resulted in 210 million unique books.Next, Google subtracted the millions of microforms, audio recordings, maps, t-shirts, turkey probles (yes, turkey probes) and…

Aug 6th
The author of this video spent six hours picking every on-screen lightsaber ignition and retraction in movie chronological order. He said he only used clips “where you can see the lightsaber ignite/retract and not just hear it” intentionally.
…No matter how many times we watch this video showing every single lightsaber ignition and retraction in the Star Wars movies we can’t make the bloody Spyder III laser to ignite like that.

Best Free Windows 7 Antivirus Software
Aug 3rd
Having done with the top 10 best free antivirus software for year 2010 two months before which was appreciated by our readers and downloaded best antivirus software according to their needs.
…s last blog ..Facebook finally Releases Android New Version Application Reply JO Denny August 4, 2010 at 9:06 am AVG is Da Bomb. Best thing going hands down!Lou http://www.remain-anonymous.at.tc Reply CoolStoryTeller August 4, 2010 at 9:11 am I use Security Essentials for live protection because it’s nice and lightweight, but the only time I had a really bad case (Alurean rootkit was the main culprit, I believe it was called), it wasn’t SE but a combination of MalwareByte’s Anti-Malware and Super Anti-Spyware that got them out. Those are the ones I recommend you keep installed for heavy duty use if something ever comes up. Also, you may have to rename the exes if you get a really bad case like I did that blacklist the programs from running Reply Free is great August 4, 2010 at 9:11 am Avast is great. I hit the occasional sites that are marked as being malware and Avast blocks the particular link from loading. And there isn’t much difference between the free products and the paid products. Other than some…

Disabled woman ‘may have starved to death
Aug 3rd
A disabled woman may have been left to starve to death after her mother, who cared for her full time, died suddenly in her bed.
…The alarm was raised by a man delivering
leaflets who noticed flies swarming around the letterbox.Mrs Wolf devoted herself to caring for her daughter, who was found just yards from her mother’s body.
Police are also investigating whether she may have killed her daughter before taking her own life. She was last seen by neighbours six weeks ago
and was said to have become increasingly reclusive and burdened by
responsibility for her daughter, who was paralysed from the neck down. One neighbour yesterday said that Mrs Wolf had been ‘very depressed’
for the past year and was often seen ’snapping’ at people in the
streets around her home in Wheathampstead, Hertfordshire.
Neighbours said that her daughter, who has not been named,
rarely left the house although Mrs Wolf did have a specially adapted
van to transport her.
The woman, who has asked not to be named, said police had told
her that she was the last person to see Mrs Wolf, when the pair chatted
outside the chemist’s in the village.Tragedy: The house…

Gears of War 3: Should Clayton Carmine Live or Die?
Aug 2nd
Surprisingly, this seems to something of a polarizing decision for the Gears faithful – a group of gamers who have been weaned on a steady dose of slicing countless locust hordes apart with a lancer.
…Poole
Look, guys, I’m not a sadist. I don’t enjoy being a voyeur to suffering. I’d just as soon sit down with a group of Locusts and play a rousing game of Scrabble in a show of positive bi-species interaction as I would stick ‘em with grenades and run like hell. But the former just isn’t how the Gears universe works. Above all, Gears of War is a story of survival, dependence on your friends and loyalty in the face of inevitable destruction. There’s no happy ending here for anyone and that’s part of the reason that Carmine must die.
But believe me, friends, I don’t say this because of maliciousness and I’m definitely not looking forward to Carmine’s death in order to satisfy some kind of perverse gratification. Rather, Carmine’s death could serve as a fitting turning point in the overall narrative. Allow me to explain.
The death of the first Carmine brother, Anthony, was important because it showed that death in the Gears universe is persistent and unrelenting. While Lieutenant Kim was killed in a dramatic…

Microsoft to patch shortcut bug
Aug 2nd
An urgent security patch for a flaw in the way Microsoft Windows handles shortcuts is being issued on 2 August, the firm says.
…The flaw was found in mid-July and allows malicious hackers to embed commands in shortcuts that are executed when that quick link is used or viewed. Every version of Windows is vulnerable to the flaw.
The first exploits of the flaw were seeded via infected USB drives and network connections. While exploitation of the flaw was limited initially, the tempo of attacks via the bug have escalated since it was discovered and publicised.
Early attacks using the bug were aimed at the software control systems for critical infrastructure such as power stations.
Microsoft is signalling the severity of the problem by releasing an update outside its usual patch cycle. Security fixes are usually issued on the second Tuesday of every month.
Christopher Budd, senior security response manager at Microsoft, wrote on the company’s security blog: “We’re able to confirm that, in the past few days, we’ve seen an increase in attempts to exploit the vulnerability”….
