Parents across Brownstone Brooklyn are slamming the Department of Education’s just-released state reading test scores which show that more than half of fifth-graders can’t read at grade level — a much-higher failure rate than last year’s test.

…City officials are cautioning parents to pay no attention to this year s numbers the test was significantly harder to pass than last year s, which was seen as so easy that it was not a reliable indicator of student achievement.But parents aren t buying it. They raised the standards and everyone s scores went down, so what does that tell you? said Laurie Windsor, president of the Community Education Council in neighboring Bay Ridge. A lot of people are questioning this and wondering how valid the scores are. It s ridiculous. Students did so well on last year s easy exams that 84 percent of city schools earned an A on their annual school report cards. A comparable stat for this year will be released in October.The sudden crash in the number of students reading at or above grade level had some parents questioning the Department of Education s reliance on testing as a way of judging student performance. Manhattan apartment in 2010, according to the New York Times, which
reported that Zaslav is getting a fully furnished apartment that
includes seven bedrooms, 8 1/2 bathrooms and three terraces. The
duplex is located in the Majestic at 115 Central Park West
(pictured right).

The apartment was listed with John Burger of Brown Harris Stevens
for $29.5 million, who told the Times he could not comment on the
deal. Zaslav’s agent, Chris Poore of the Corcoran Group, also
declined to comment.

O’Brien moved to Los Angeles last year when he made the switch from

…NEW YORK — Sandra Bullock was Hollywood’s best-paid actress over the past year ahead of Reese Witherspoon and Cameron Diaz, according to Forbes.
Bullock earned $56 million between June 2009 and June 2010, driven by income from “The Proposal” and “The Blind Side,” it said. “Despite everything that’s gone wrong personally for Sandra Bullock, financially she’s been on fire,” Forbes wrote.
Witherspoon and Diaz each made about $32 million. They are followed by Jennifer Aniston with a $27 million haul, according to Forbes. Sarah Jessica Parker ranks fifth on its list with $25 million.
