NJ court: Nazi-naming parents shouldn’t get kids back

A state appeals court has determined that a New Jersey couple who gave their children Nazi-inspired names should not regain custody of them. Mother wrote note claiming her husband stabbed her with a screwdriver and taught their son “how to kill someone at the age of 3.”

…t get kids back”. The implication is that the children were retained because of their names, not because of the aberrant and chaotic nature of the family. WICKET99I think the NAMES indicate the aberrant and chaotic nature of the family. RobertHeThey probably do, but the parents also are protected by the First Amendment. The question is whether or not the children are socially maladapted, not how screwed up their parents are for giving them abhorrent names. If the names are horrid but the children are well-balanced and happy then removing those children solely because of the names would be a miscarriage of justice and would probably elicit a lawsuit against the withholding agency that would be indefensible. HookerAnd if the children are not well-balanced and happy, it would still be miscarriage of justice, and it would be improprer and unlawful to remove them from their parents. Laws and government can’t make people act the way we would like them to, even if what they are doing to their children is harmful….

How Cats Display Affection

When a cat chooses to express affection, she’s more likely to show you than tell you, so understanding the feline lexicon of love requires that you understand feline body language and how they interact with fellow cats as well as humans.

PG13 Family Circus

Everyone has a charity or a cause that they believe in. Mine is Family Circus, by Bill Keane. Family Circus been around for over 50 years, and hasn’t even been funny yet on accident.

…Everyone has a charity or a cause that they believe in. Mine is Family Circus, by Bill Keane. Family Circus been around for over 50 years, and hasn’t even been funny yet on accident. It’s the only part of the newspaper that birds won’t shit on. And I have vowed to destroy it.
Rather than tracking down and destroying every Family Circus comic, I’ve spent years developing a robot capable of rewriting them. This powerful robot has been programmed with every modern technique of joke construction and irony. He is named PG-13, after the guidelines set down by the Motion Picture Association of America that he is forced to cyber-follow. What that means is that in each comic, PG-13 is only allowed 4 to 6 curse words, and none of them can be a sexual fuck. So he cannot fuck you, but he can have fucking sex with you. He’s incredible and amazing and I have spent the last five days feeding Family Circus comics into him. Here are our results.

367mph bus

A motoring enthusiast has built a bus capable of hitting more than 350mph.

…Mr Stender’s creation, which he has dubbed ‘The School Time Jet-Powered School
Bus’, also fires out 80 foot flames from the back creating massive clouds of
smoke.

Mr Stender, 43, said: “I built the bus for two reasons. The first is to
entertain people because, come on, it’s a jet bus.

“The second, is to keep kids off drugs. Jets are hot, drugs are not.

“The entire vehicle was custom built by myself. There’s no way the
original bus could have withstood the speeds that I take it to.

“We do a lot of displays at schools and we are trying to show them
there’s more to life than sitting in front of computers.

Mr Stender, whose mechanical skills are entirely self taught, said he has a
passion for making things go fast.

He said: “I bought it just as an old school bus, but I have to say only
about five percent are original parts.

“Actually a lot of it is hand-crafted and the types of metals used would
be more at home on an aircraft.

“There’s still some bus left on it, a little bit on…

Public support for the war was already waning. Just 43 percent of the public still backs “the good war.” The leaks mark the beginning of the end of one of a stupid country’s countless stupid misadventures. I don’t see what else might have accomplished the same thing so quickly.

Should Videotaping the Police Really Be a Crime?

Prosecutors across the U.S. are making the dubious claim that videotaping the police in action violates wiretap laws. But that’s a stretch, to put it mildly

…Law enforcement is fighting back. In the case of Graber a young husband and father who had never been arrested the police searched his residence and seized computers. Graber spent 26 hours in jail even before facing the wiretapping charges that could conceivably put him away for 16 years. (It is hard to believe he will actually get anything like that, however. One point on his side: the Maryland attorney general’s office recently gave its opinion that a court would likely find that the wiretap law does not apply to traffic stops.)…

Tokyo’s ‘Oldest Woman’ Hasn’t Been Seen for Decades

Only days after finding out that Tokyo’s oldest man had been dead for 30 years, Japanese officials got another surprise: The capital’s oldest woman hasn’t been seen for decades. …(Aug. 3) — Only days after finding out that Tokyo’s “oldest man” had been dead for 30 years, Japanese officials got another surprise today: The capital’s “oldest woman” hasn’t been seen for decades.Fusa Furuya was said to be 113 and listed as living with her daughter, but when officials went to investigate they were told the mother’s whereabouts were unknown. The 79-year-old daughter said she hadn’t been in contact with her mother since moving into a new apartment in the 1980s and had no idea that the two were registered at the same address. The Japanese Jiji Press reportedly quoted officials as saying the two hadn’t been in touch “for about 50 years.”Japan has a high life expectancy and a low birthrate, with an estimated 40,000 people over the age of 100. But the two cases have put that number in doubt, leading alarmed authorities to begin a search for other centenarians.”Understanding the whereabouts of the elderly and their situation is a very important problem,” Health Minister Akira Nagatsuma told…

Super Lightweight PDF Reader That’s Perfect For Netbooks

There’s no shortage of Adobe reader alternatives out there, but if you’re still searching for one and you like keeping things minimal without the bloat, this may be the one you’re looking for.

…of total PDF reading market, nobody in their right mind will waste time writing an exploit for sumatra, the code will be written specifically to execute when ran through Adobe pdf and when sumatra opens it it will get a file error or some crap. And yes, adobe reader is bloatware, the mere fact that it takes you longer than instantly to open it (2 seconds is 2long, and I think you are lying) points it out. cybercapitalist said 2:20PM on 7-30-2010So much for a civilized discussion. Looks like the trolls are coming out… Prolorn said 3:21AM on 7-31-2010Adobe seems to have tightened up Reader’s resource usage tremendously in more recent versions, so I suspect “bloatware” cries are overblown. Nevertheless, Reader is certainly more resource intensive than Sumatra, or this “SlimPDF”, and in Chrome I prefer to open PDFs in Google’s online viewer. As for security, Reader is indeed a big target. That’s another reason I prefer to view PDFs using Google’s viewer, and that’s why I always scan PDFs after downloading and…
